As identified by the Complete the Schuylkill River Trail campaign, several sections of trail in Lower Merion would bring bicyclists and pedestrians over two bridges to Manayunk and the Schuylkill River Trail.  When constructed, these trails will make a wonderful connection between Lower Merion and Manayunk and increase access to the Schuylkill River Trail.

Currently, Lower Merion Township is building the Cynwyd Heritage Trail on an inactive SEPTA rail line.  Funding to carry that trail over the Manayunk Bridge was recently secured by the City of Philadelphia. The William Penn Foundation is funding the design of that trail section, which is under the management of the Schuylkill Project. O'Neill Properties owns the Pencoyd site, which will be developed for housing with a riverfront trail and restored bridge that will provide public access to bikes and peds.

This guided walk, to be held on Saturday, June 4th at 1-4pm, will allow those curious about how these sections will connect to see the how the trails and bridges will enhance connections to the Schuylkill River Trail. 

Here's the loop course:

• Start at the corner of Lock and Main Street

• Walk up Main Street and over the Green Lane Bridge
• Pick up the Cynwyd Trail at Belmont Avenue/Rock Hill Road
• Follow the under-construction Cynwyd Trail up the Spaventa Spur
• View the Manayunk Bridge at the Overlook
• Walk down to the Schuylkill River (under I-76) through the Connelly Spur
• Walk back to down Main Street to Lock Street in Manayunk

This walk will be guided. Dogs are not permitted. Waivers must be signed by all participants at the start. 

Getting There:

• Take the Regional Rail to Norristown.  SEPTA Schedule.
• Free parking at the lot next to the Triumph Motorcycle dealer (4000 Main Street)  but is limited to first come first served.
• Paid parking at 4120 Main Street (Rear parking lot on Lock Street across RR tracks)
